An essential element of Next Call, LLC is to provide specialized and comprehensive training to first responders regarding mental health and welllness. It is important to help those who respond to critical incidents not only understand the mental health of those they are serving, but to also help them maintain their own mental health.
When first responders participate in trainings, they are better able to understand the impact of mental health on individuals, families, communities and themselves. Through effective training, first responders learn to identify signs and symptoms of mental illnesses, how to utilize a range of stabilization and de-escalation techniques, community resources, and other relevant information.
Training can be individualized as needed to cover a variety of topics as requested. Most trainings are provided in person and some may be provided virtually. Hosted, multi-agency trainings are also welcomed.
See the training page for a list of trainings available.
First responders are 2-3 times more likely to develop PTSD than the general public. It is estimated that between 25 and 35% of first responders currently suffer from PTSD. In 2020, more police officers died by suicide than in the line of duty and we are seeing this in fire and EMS services as well. First responders need help too!
First responders are frontline heros and face trauma on a regular basis. Although their reactions are normal reactions to abnormal situations, they are often hesitant to ask for help and they are suffering in silence.
I offer virtual and limited in-person, one-on-one counseling. I'm different than many other counselors because I have served as a firefighter, paramedic, dispatcher, correctional officer, investigator and police officer and I'm still out in the field when I'm not doing this work. Although your story is yours, you are not alone. It is brave and courageous to seek treatment and we will focus on your resiliency to bounce back and prepare you for what the future brings. If you had that bad call, let's work through it. If the next call is the bad call, let's make sure you are prepared. Be ready for your next call.
Remember - there is nothing wrong with you! Something has happened and you are having normal reactions to an abnormal situation. You are not alone! Let's work through it together.
